Shanks x Friend!Reader (READ DESCRIPTION PLEASE)

“Ah, good! You’re here Shanks! Thanks a ton, you have no idea how much this means to me!” (Name) cheered as she hugged the red-head tightly.

“No worries, (Name)! I mean, it’s just dog-sitting, how hard could it be?” He said as he patted her back. She pulled back with a serious look on her face.

“You have no idea how much hell Luffy can raise! I left him alone for five minutes once and when I came back, he’d destroyed everything he could get his little paws on. So, please, don’t leave him alone.”

“Don’t worry! He won’t leave my sight! Besides, I love puppies, so how could I leave such a cute one alone?” Shanks said as he lifted the Golden Retriever puppy into his arms. (Name) smiled at the scene.

“Calm down, (Name). It’ll only be for a few hours, and Shanks is great with kids and animals, so relax.” (Name) glanced over at her boyfriend before nodding.

“Alright, alright! If Beckman says you can handle this… then, I’ll accept it.” Shanks’ smile twitched in annoyance, but no one took notice.

“Okay, you two should head out on your date. Go on! Shoo!” He began playfully shooing them out of their house.

“Ah! One last thing! Please take him out for a walk, a-and keep a firm grip on his leash; he’ll chase after anything that moves, so he’s liable to run off if you aren’t careful.” Shanks sighed before gently pushing her out by the small of her back.

“Alright already! I swear I’ll take good care of him!” (Name) nodded before joining Beckman in the car.

‘Even if I want to strangle the life out of the damned mutt.’ He thought as he placed the puppy on the floor.

“Alright, dog! I’ll take you for a walk in an hour; go play until then!” Shanks said before plopping onto the couch in the living room. Luffy followed, placing his front paws on the edge of the cushion and wagging his tail. Shanks tore his eyes from the television and scowled. Picking the puppy up by the scruff of his neck, Shanks glared at him and murmured:

“What’s so great about you? Why does she love you so much?” When the only answer Luffy could provide was a happy yip and a wagging tail, Shanks growled and tossed the puppy blindly behind the couch. He sat back and smirked when he heard a pained yipe from behind him.

‘(Name) loves that mutt a lot, why don’t you use that to your advantage?’ A voice in his head asked.

“How?”

‘She’d be ever so sad if something out of your control happened to him. So much so that she may even need a shoulder to cry on.’ Shanks frowned.

“No, I may think about it often, but she’d hate me for sure if that happened.”

‘That’s why I said “out of your control.” Do you understand now?’ Shanks smiled sadistically and being brainstorming how to make it happen.

---One Hour Later---

“Alright, mutt! Time to go for a walk!” Shanks called, not really expecting the puppy to come running. However, it seemed Luffy forgot all about being thrown because he came running; happily yapping the whole time. Shanks rubbed his temple before attaching the leash to the puppy’s collar and opening the door.

---With (Name) and Beckman---

“That was a great movie, hun. Dinner was pretty damn good too. Maybe when we get home I could… treat you to dessert?” (Name) hummed as she hugged Beckman’s arm.

“I-I…. ahem, I don’t think it’s a good idea to put those sorts of thoughts in my head while I’m driving, babe. But… dessert sounds great.” He responded just as flirtatiously. They had just entered the neighborhood when Beckman had to stomp on the brakes.

“Jesus! What was that?!” (Name) huffed, rubbing her collarbone as she looked up. “Shanks?!”

“(N-Name), I… I’m so sorry, but I was walking Luffy and then I tripped and he ran off and, and--!” Shanks gasped out frantically.

“Calm down, Shanks! Which way did you see him go?” Beckman asked, hand on his best friend’s shoulder. Shanks fought the urge to shrug it off.

“I saw him go that way!” Shanks said as he pointed toward the street to their left. Beckman nodded and headed down the street after (Name)—who had already taken off to look for Luffy. Shanks smiled to himself before following suite.

“*Huff* *Huff* Luffy! Luffy! Here boy! Here b—oh my god!” (Name) gasped before falling on her butt. Tears began trailing down her face as she stared up at a tree.

“(Name)?! Are you alright?” Beckman asked as he skidded to a halt at her side. She pointed a finger shakily at the tree, and the moment Beckman saw what was in the tree, he covered (Name’s) eyes and pulled her close. Shanks slowed to a walk as he came closer before faking a gasp.

“What sort of sick bastard would do such a thing?” (Name) bawled into her boyfriend’s shirt, the image of her puppy flashing through her mind once more. Someone had cut the poor thing in half and hanged it with its own intestines from a branch.

“Shanks call the police; I’m taking (Name) home.” Beckman said before lifting (Name) up and walking back to the car. Shanks scowled at Beckman’s back, wanting very much to be in his place before doing as requested.

---One Week Later---

“Are you feeling any better now that that psycho bastard was caught, (Name)?” Shanks asked carefully as they finished watching the news report on her dog’s murder. Shanks had remembered that night what (Name) had told him the last time Luffy had run off; one of the many people who lived in the neighborhood threatened to “rip that mutt in two if he ever gets loose again.” As such, Shanks decided to hang the dog in a tree on their yard.

“Yes, but… I just can’t believe Sakazuki would actually follow through with his threat.” (Name) murmured. Yasopp, who had come over with Roo and Shanks, patted her back consolingly. (Name) sighed and stood to go answer the phone when it began ringing. The guys all watched as she spoke quietly with the person on the other end. They frowned when she frowned, but Beckman was the first one up when they noticed the tears in her eyes. She hung the phone up before being led to the couch again by Beckman.

“What’s wrong now, (Name)?” Roo asked as (Name) buried her face in her hands and took a deep breath.

“My best friend was found brutally murdered at her brother-in-law’s Halloween bash, her son’s gone missing, his friends claim they don’t know where he is, and no one’s been able to get a hold of her brother-in-law. My god, what is wrong with people nowadays? Anyway, I’m going to go to the police station to see if I can help. I’ll be back before dinner, okay Honey?” (Name) asked as she stood and made her way over to the front door. Beckman nodded and followed her over to the door, helped her into her coat, and shared a brief kiss with her before saying goodbye.

“*Sigh* With all these murders going on I’m never going to be able to propose to her, am I?” Beckman muttered but the others heard anyway.

“You’re planning on proposing?!” The other three exclaimed, but for different reasons. Roo and Yasopp were, obviously, happy to hear this; Shanks, on the other hand, was having difficulty keeping up his façade. Especially when Beckman pulled the ring out of his locked desk drawer.

“I bought it last month; I haven’t been able to find the right moment. I was going to do it last week but… I forgot the ring and then all that stuff with Luffy happened. Geez, this month is really kicking her when she’s down.” Beckman sighed before looking over to Shanks, who jumped and quickly forced himself to give his most convincing smile. “Shanks… when I do ask (Name) to marry me, would you be my best man?”

“Eh? Me? I-I really couldn’t! I mean, by the time you say ‘I do’ I’ll probably be sloshed. You don’t want me up there, especially when I’m completely hammered.” Shanks said, chuckling nervously.

“But I trust you. I know you talk a lot of shit sometimes, but when it comes down to it, you do the right thing. So, please, be my best man. Lord knows I won’t be able to tear Roo from the buffet and Yasopp would talk everyone’s ear off about his kid. So that just leaves you.” Beckman joked. Shanks frowned to himself.

‘So, you won this “honor” by default, huh?’ The voice from before began angrily. ‘Then maybe you should show him how you feel about that.’ Shanks continued his conversation with the others, but most of his attention was given to the voice in his mind.

‘You want to know how, don’t you? It’s simple; show him what happens when he takes things that aren’t his.’ Shanks smiled genuinely; maybe if he did this right (Name) would love him instead.

---Timeskip---

“Beckman, I’m home!” (Name) called as she kicked off her shoes. “Beckman?”

When (Name) didn’t get a response, she made her way to the kitchen only to find it empty. At least, that’s how it seemed at first glance. Walking over to the thing that had caught her attention in the first place, (Name) knelt down and touched it. It was a puddle; a red puddle that reeked of iron.

“Is this blood?” (Name) murmured to herself, swallowing thickly. Just as she was about to look for Beckman, someone placed a rag over her mouth and held it there tightly as she struggled.

‘Chloroform?!’ (Name) thought before blacking out.

---Timeskip (Last one, I swear!)---

“Ugh, my head.” (Name) groaned as she came to. When she went to rub the sleep from her eyes, (Name) realized that she was shackled to the wall and began struggling.

“You won’t be able to break free like that, you know. So just relax; it’ll make things so much easier.” A voice echoed from the darkness. (Name) looked up and felt her blood run cold.

“S-Shanks?! What’s going on?” (Name) asked before tears began to well up in her eyes. “What did you do to Beckman?”

“Why don’t you see for yourself?” Shanks question with a friendly smile before placing a laptop in front of her. (Name) stared at the video in confusion before she realized what it was of. It was a news report, a body had been found in a nearby river; it was Beckman. (Name) glared up at Shanks.

“Why are you doing this?”

“Isn’t it obvious? Now that he’s out of the way we can be together! This was simply karma for daring to touch what was not his!” (Name) shrunk back as Shanks began laughing manically.

“What are you going to do with me?” She breathed, obviously shaken.

“Oh, my dear, you have nothing to worry about! I won’t hurt you! I’m just going to keep you down here while I build you a room upstairs.” Shanks grabbed the laptop and headed for the only door in the entire room. “Or rather, you’ll stay down here until you realize that you love me. I’ll be back in a couple of hours for dinner. Oh and, feel free to scream as loud as you like; this room was made for other equally loud things and no one will hear you. Bye bye~!” (Name) could only cry silently as the last rays of light left the room, leaving her in absolute darkness.
